Detroit's People Mover (Metro)

The people mover is a nice elevated train that goes around Detroit's downtown area. At just $0.50 per ride, it is an excellent and cheap way to get around downtown. You can even see some landmarks and some scenic views (at one point it borders the Detroit river, and you can see Canada at your right)... The complete ride takes about 15 minutes (20 or so at rush hour). By the way, make sure you check out the modern art at the stations, its quite interesting.

As soon as you get there, go to some public tourist information center or any big public transportation station (bus, metro, etc). They usually have them for free...or at an affordable price. And believe me when I say this: traveling around in a big city without a map is far from clever. You can get to many more places with less money and spending less time too if you just use a map...
